Bark River Pets, an all-natural, eco-conscious dog food company based in Wisconsin, focuses on crafting nutritious treats designed to complement an active canine lifestyle. Their offering is primarily freeze-dried, single-ingredient treats, tailored to suit dogs of all ages. Rooted in the founders' deep love for their rescue dog, Finley, and their shared adventures along the Bark River in their hometown, Bark River Pets thrives on a passion for healthy pet nutrition.

Approached by Bark River Pets' owners with a vision of an authentic, eco-friendly pet product resonating with their adventurous ethos, I found kinship in their story, having grown up in the Midwest as well. This led to conceptualizing natural textures and infusing an adventurous spirit into the packaging design. The project started with their logo, hand-lettered using organic shapes reminiscent of Wisconsin's wilderness. Additionally, I drew a custom illustration depicting Finley navigating the river in a canoe, and complemented it with hand-painted watercolor textures to give the packaging an organic feel.

It all begins with a sketch. Every logo project I work on starts with hand-drawn, rough sketches to get as many ideas out as quickly as possible. From there, I choose a few of the best options to present to my client. Here are a few of the original Bark River Pets sketches.
The final logotype is inspired by the organic shapes of ferns and leaves found along the Bark River in Wisconsin.
